Visit the ”Works” in Avesta. It is located in an ironworks area dating back to the 1600s. Beautiful industrial buildings next to Dalälven. Today you can visit them old iron foundry with toaster ovens and blast furnaces. In the wonderful and exciting premises organized every year Avesta Art.
The artworks created by today’s artists exhibited in the old industrial environment. This gives a very special meeting between the new and the old. Wander in the exciting surroundings of Rosthuset, Masugnshallen and Martinungshallen. It is dark and you are met with many exciting sounds from the time when production began in the premises. It will be a sensational walk and a beautiful experience of the art of this year’s edition, titled Illusions / Allusions.

Besöker ”Verket” i Avesta. Det ligger i ett bruksområde med anor från 1600-talet. Vackra industribyggnader intill Dalälven. Idag kan man besöka dem gamla järnhyttan med rostugnar och masugnar. I de underbara och spännande lokalerna anordnas varje år konstutställningen Avesta Art.
Konstverken skapade av dagens konstnärer ställt ut i den gamla industriella miljön. Detta ger ett mycket speciellt möte mellan det nya och det gamla. Vandrar i de spännande miljöerna i Rosthuset, Masugnshallen och Martinungshallen. Det är mörkt och man möts av många spännande ljud från tiden då det pågick produktion i lokalerna. Det blir en känslosam vandring och en vacker upplevelse av konstverken i årets upplaga som har titeln Illusioner/Allusioner.

Så har det så äntligen blivit dags att resa till Falun för att se en utställning på Galleri SE av och med Carl Johan De Geer som bland annat är konstnär, fotograf, författare, filmskapare och scenograf. Mitt första möte med honom var under min tid på Duro-tapet i Gävle, tidigt 70-tal. Carl Johan var en av formgivarna i den kända TIO-Gruppen. De jobbade med unika mönster med skarpa färger och iögonfallande mönster för textil och tapeter bland annat. Många tyckte då på tidigt 70-tal att TIO-gruppens design var provocerande. Det blev en succé, en framgångs som fortfarande varar!
Jag går in i galleriet som är fyllt av människor. Det är trångt och intresset är mycket stort för Carl Johan De Geer. Försöker att ta mig fram för att se de bilder som finns längs alla väggar. I ett mindre rum visas filmer som Carl Johan skapat. Så får jag se en man sittandes i en liten fåtölj i ett hörn. Runt honom står journalister och fotografer. Ett av mina mål denna dag är att få tala med Carl Johan. Vi är släkt på hans moders sida och jag har via en annan släkting fått ett utdrag som visar var och hur våra släkter möts. Har även tagit med mig min bok för att ge till honom som ett varmt tack för allt vackert Carl Johan skapat under en lång tid.
Vi möts och talas vid. Det blir en trevlig stund och Carl Johan berättar om sitt sätt att skapa. Jag överlämnar släktträdet, min bok, tackar för en trevlig stund och önskar honom all lycka framåt. Jag går sedan och ser några av de filmer Carl Johan skapat. Filmerna berör, liksom mycket av det Carl Johan De Geer skapat och designat under många år. Carl Johan berättar att han fått ta emot många priser för sitt skapande bland annat filmpriset Chaplin, en Guldbagge, Årets filmfotograf och Bästa svenska kortfilm vid Göteborg Film Festival, det portugisiska filmpriset Oliveire-priset, Svenska Deckarakademins Ture Sventon-pris, Bellman-priset.

BULJONG, ANDRA FILMER OCH MANUSSKISSER
”I början av 1960-talet, när jag gick på Konstfackskolan, föreföll film vara den viktigaste konstarten. Åh vad jag ville göra film. Där finns ju allt på samma gång: bildkonst, litteratur, balett, mim, musik, slagsmål, lycka, olycka, mord, snällhet, ondska, matlagning, tävling, kamp, replik, monolog, parodi, kärlek, hat, kirurgi, erotik ? vilken av dessa konstarter jag än ville ägna mig åt i livet så kunde jag hitta den inom filmen. Och gestalta den. Dessutom: den som gör film kan få uppmärksamhet, beröm, tillstånd att köra in stora lastbilar i parker, spärra av gator, använda skjutvapen och dynamit, att dra elektriska kablar kors och tvärs, att skrika till andra håll tyst, ur vägen.
Saken var klar, min klasskamrat Håkan Alexandersson och jag började förbereda oss. Det skulle ta längre tid än vi först trott. Tio år senare kom vi igång, med inspelningen av Tårtan-serien 1972. Och under 20 års tid trappade vi upp arbetet. Skjutvapen, svartkrut, magnesium och stubintråd fyllde kontorets hyllor, ihop med böcker av Franz Kafka, Sigmund Freud, Conan Doyle och Patricia Highsmith. Sen föll vårt samarbete ihop, av många orsaker. Detta har jag gjort en film om, Jag minns Håkan Alexandersson. Mitt eget arbete lämnade det spektakulära. Aldrig mer skulle eldstrider vara mitt mål. Jag blev tvungen att börja planera filmerna, när jag gjorde dem själv. Och då kom jag på ett knep som underlättade. Att rita rader av små teckningar i manuskripten. Det gick fort, när jag väl hade hittat den rätta pennan, en reservoarpenna av ett dyrt märke. Det var viktigt att pennspetsen löpte utan motstånd över papperet. Snabba teckningar utan föregående skisser skulle det vara. Och här uppstod en intressant biverkning.
Så länge jag varit konstnär, i mer än 50 år, har jag tyckt att oavsiktlig konst varit bäst. Alltså sådant som inte är gjort för att visas. När jag till exempel arbetade på prins Eugens Waldemarsudde för några år sedan så hittade jag en mängd skisser som prinsen gjort på 1890-talet, ofta gjorda med några få snabba penseldrag på ett stycke kartong.. Studier kallade han dem. Eftersom de inte var avsedda att visas för någon så fick de ett mycket friare utförande än de ganska pedantiskt genomförda så kallade mästerverken, Molnet med flera. Nu vill jag inte jämföra mig med någon annan konstnär. Utan jag vill komma fram till att det finns en charm i det oavsiktliga. I alla dessa små teckningar som jag gjort i filmmanuskriptens högermarginaler.” Text: Carl Johan De Geer

A meeting with Carl Johan De Geer

So it’s finally time to go to Falun to see an exhibition at the ”Gallery SE” with Carl Johan De Geer, among other things, artist, photographer, writer, filmmaker and stage designer. My first encounter with him was during my time at Duro-wallpaper in Gavle, early 1970s. Carl Johan was one of the designers of the famous TIO-group. They worked with a unique pattern with bright colors and eye-catching designs for textiles and wallpapers among others. Many thought then in early 1970s that TIO-group design was provocative. It was a success, a success that is still living!
I go into the gallery which is full of people. It is crowded and the interest is very big for Carl Johan De Geer. Trying to make my way to see the images that are found along all the walls. In a smaller room movies are displayed as Carl Johan created. So do I see a man sitting in a small armchair in a corner. Around him are journalists and photographers. One of my goals today is to speak to Carl Johan. We are relatives on his mother’s side and I have been through another relative received an excerpt that shows where and how our families meet. I have also brought my book to give to him as a warm thank you for all the beautiful Carl Johan created for a long time.
We meet and talk. It will be a nice moment and Carl Johan tells of his way to create. I give the family tree, my book, and thanks for a nice time and wish him all the best for the future. I then go and see some of the movies Carl Johan created. The films touch, like much of the Carl Johan De Geer created and designed for many years. Carl Johan says that he received many awards for its creation including film award Chaplin, a Guldbagge, year Cinematographer and Best Swedish Short Film at Gothenburg Film Festival, the Portuguese Film Award Oliveire Prize, Swedish Crime Writers’ Academy Tam Sventon Prize, Bellman Prize.

BROTH, OTHER FILMS AND SCRIPTS SKETCHES
”In the early 1960s, when I went to the College of Art, appeared the film to be the most important art form. Oh what I wanted to do the movie. It has all things at once: visual arts, literature, ballet, mime, music, fights, happiness, accident, murder, kindness, evil, cooking, competition, fight, replica, monologue, parody, love, hate, surgery, eroticism? which of these art forms as I wanted to devote my time of life I could find it in the film. And turns it. Also: it makes the film can get attention, praise, permission to drive the big trucks in parks, blocking off streets, using firearms and dynamite, pulling electrical cables crisscrossing, shouting to others keep quiet, out of the way.
The thing was clear, my classmate Håkan Alexandersson and I began to prepare. It would take longer than we first thought. Ten years later, we started with the filming of The Cake Series in 1972. And for 20 years we escalated the work. Firearms, black powder, magnesium and fuse filled the office shelves, together with books by Franz Kafka, Sigmund Freud, Conan Doyle and Patricia Highsmith. Then fell our cooperation together, for many reasons. I have done a movie about, I remember Håkan Alexandersson. My own work left it spectacular. Never again would firefights be my goal. I had to start planning the movies, when I made them myself. And then I remembered a trick which facilitated. To draw lines of small drawings in the manuscripts. It passed quickly, once I had found the right pen, a fountain pen of an expensive brand. It was important that the pen tip ran unopposed across the paper. Quick Notes without prior sketches would be. And here arose an interesting side effect.
As long as I have been an artist, in more than 50 years, I have thought that accidental art been the best. So things that are not made to appear. When I, for example, worked at Prince Eugen’s Waldemarsudde few years ago I found a lot of sketches by the Prince in the 1890s, often made with a few quick strokes on a piece of cardboard .. Studies he called them. Since they were not intended to be shown to anyone they got a much freer performance than the rather pedantic implemented so-called masterpieces, Cloud and others. Now I would not compare myself with any other artist. But I want to come to the conclusion that there is a charm in the accidental. Besöker Galleri SE Konst på Slaggatan i Falun. Det är vernissage för en utställning med verk av Gunilla Lundstedt och Kerstin Neij.
Gunilla visar denna gång grafik som hon tryckt på Falu konstgrafiska verkstad. Kerstin som bor och är verksam i Stockholm visar textil och screentryck. De båda konstnärerna studerade på tidigt 70-tal tillsammans på Konstfack och då på den textila linjen. Båda har haft många utställningar i Sverige och även ute i Europa.
Gunilla bor i Falun där hon har en egen ateljé där hon arbetar med teckning och målning. Vid Falu konstgrafiska verkstad arbetar hon med färg och svartvit grafik i många olika tekniker.

Kerstin har genom alla år som konstnär arbetat mycket med screentryck. Hon tycker om att experimentera och hon har arbetat med många olika material som papper, plywood, kakel, textil och emalj. Kerstin säger att det i hennes sökande finns en kontinuitet –Fragment ur tidigare bilder hämtas in i nya, sätter avtryck och går vidare. Vi samtalar en stund och Kerstin berättar att hon bland annat varit i marmorbrotten i Carrara, nordvästra Toscana, och skulpterat i den vackra vita marmorn. Carrara ligger nära ”mina hemtrakter” i de sydligaste av Ligurien.
Gunilla och Kerstin finns representerade över hela landet och båda har fått många konstnärliga utmärkelser genom åren.

Viewing Gallery View Art at Slaggatan in Falun. It is the opening of an exhibition of works by Gunilla Lundstedt and Kerstin Neij.
Gunilla show this time graphics as she pressed the Falun Print Workshop. Kerstin, who lives and works in Stockholm shows the textile and screen printing. The two artists studied in the early 70s together at the College of the textile line. Both have had many exhibitions in Sweden and also in Europe.
Gunilla live in Falun, where she has her own studio where she works with drawing and painting. At the Falun Print Workshop, she works with color and black and white graphics in many different techniques.
Kerstin has through the years as an artist worked extensively with screen printing. She likes to experiment and she has worked with many different materials such as paper, plywood, tiles, textiles and enamel. Kerstin says that in her search is continuity fragments in earlier images downloaded into new, puts footprint and move on. We talk for a while and Kerstin tells me that she visited the marble quarries of Carrara, north-western Tuscany, and sculpted in the beautiful white marble. Carrara is close to ”my area” in the southern of Liguria.
Gunilla and Kerstin are represented all over the country and both have received numerous artistic awards over the years.

Utställningen går under namnet ”Från impressionisterna till Picasso”. Konstutställningen lockade under de två första månaderna 70 000 besökare. Min gode vän konstnären Rodolfo Mantovani från Ligurien ställer just nu, juli 2015, ut sin konst i Portugals näst största stad Porto. Det är hans första utställning i Portugal och den går under namnet ”TANGO PINTADO”. I sin konst ger Rodolofo uttryck för hur mycket han älskar tangomusiken och tangodansen. Hans bilder lämnar ingen oberörd. Under 2012 ställdes Rodolfo Mantovanis konst ut i Lund och i Köpenhamn. Rodolfo har utbildning till designer och arkitekt och bor vackert högt uppe i de Liguriska bergen i regionen La Spezia.

My good friend the artist Rodolfo Mantovani from Liguria down right now, in July 2015, his art in Portugal’s second city Porto. It is his first exhibition in Portugal and it goes by the name ”Tango PINTADO”. In his art gives Rodolofo express how much he loves the tango music and the tango dance. His images leave no one indifferent. In 2012 was Rodolfo Mantovani art in Lund (Sweden) and Copenhagen (Denmark). Rodolfo have education to the designer and architect, and live beautifully high up in the Ligurian mountains in the region of La Spezia.
